These Thumb Pianos are made and designed by Luthier Isaac Webb, of Isaac Instruments Melbourne. Matrials Blackwood back and sides European spruce or western red cedar tops King William pine corner blocks Polished brass or aluminium bridge High quality spring steel lamellae (tines) Tuning Tuning the Thumb Piano is simply a matter of loosening off the two bridge screws with an alan key untill the tines are just held in place, and then moving them in or out to the desired pitch. A pair of pliers and an electronic tuner is all that is needed. If the tines are too short to get the desired note, a new set of tines can be cut for a specific tuning. Note Treat the kalimba as you would any other musical instrument and store it out of direct sunlight and try to reduce extraem changes in humidity. The occasional tightening of the bridge screws may be required to stop buzzes. |
